A Children's Pamper Party in Selby With Something Deeper Going On

There is usually one child who hangs back. While the others are already happily discussing nail colours and cucumbers, this one stays near the door with their coat still on, working out whether any of this is safe. At a lot of parties, that child gets gently pushed into the middle of things, or quietly filed away as the shy one. At ours, they are allowed to watch for as long as they need. They almost always join in. They just wanted to do it on their own terms.

That child tells you most of what Dolled Up Pamper Party is really about.

Children arrive excited about choosing their nails, mixing a face mask, getting an airbrush tattoo or grabbing the karaoke microphone. They should be excited. Birthdays are meant to feel special. Underneath all of that, something quieter is going on. We give them real choices. We listen. We let them enjoy being exactly who they are.

What the self care is really for.

Children already get plenty of messages about how they are supposed to look. At Dolled Up Pamper Party we wanted to build a day that sent a different one.

The natural clay masks, the nail art, the airbrush tattoos are real fun, and children love them. What a child is learning underneath is that looking after yourself can feel good all on its own. You are worth a bit of care. Your body deserves kindness. You are allowed to take up space, sing (not perfectly), choose what feels right for you and be celebrated for turning up as you are (or in fancy dress).

We make memories and a bit of calm, and we let children feel good in their own skin. The rest washes off.

Why the day moves between calm and chaos

A Dolled Up Pamper Party has its own rhythm.

Downstairs, there are slower stretches where children sit together, follow some gentle breathing, take part in The Mask Bar and enjoy a sensory activity at their own pace. Then it's upsatirs, where the music goes on, the microphones and funky wigs come out, and there is karaoke, dancing, nail art, airbrush tattoos and loads of silliness.#

Children need both (so do we). They need a chance to slow down and notice what calm actually feels like in their body. They also need the freedom to be loud, move around and feel part of something, whilst dipping strawberries and marshmallows into the chocolate fountain.

The Mask Bar

The Mask Bar is our signature sensory spa facial experience.

Children mix and apply their own pink clay mask, use our custom blended Facial Dough, enjoy warm bamboo cloths and finish with our Inner Glow Oil. Each stage is slow and simple on purpose. We bring in breathing, gentle muscle relaxation and small moments of noticing, in words children can follow and it's all vegan!

Nobody has to sit perfectly still or perform relaxation correctly. Some children fall completely into the ritual. Others giggle the whole way through.

The point is for a child to feel self-care as something they can do for themselves, with their own hands, for how it feels.

Our Mask Bar range is vegan and cruelty-free and was developed with our botanist. We would rather tell you exactly what is in it and why than lean on vague words like clean or natural.

Choice does a lot of quiet work

One of the simplest ways to support a child is to let them choose.

At our parties, children pick between activities and treatments rather than being marched through the same things in the same order. One heads straight for the microphone. One spends twenty happy minutes choosing nail colours. One prefers the cheesy chocolate challenge. One needs to watch for a while first. There is room for all of them. The birthday child is celebrated, while every guest is treated as though their afternoon matters just as much.

A party the parents get to enjoy too

Children's parties usually mean a mountain of planning. The venue, the entertainment, the food, the decorations, the invitations, and the low hum of worry about whether everyone is having a good time.

At Dolled Up Pamper Party, that part is already done. Our Selby venue has its own spaces for the different parts of the day, from quiet sensory self care through to karaoke, food and the celebration itself. The activities are guided and the children stay engaged, which means you get to remember your child's birthday instead of running it and you get to watch it all on a screen from the comfort of our beautiful sofas in recpetion so it is up to you whether you want to be part of it all (by sitting at The Mask Bar and doing the facial with the kids) or leaving it all to us whislt you chill, feet up with a cuppa.

Room for more than one kind of child

Some children love being at the centre of everything. Some take their time. Some are easy in a crowd and some need a bit of reassurance before they join in. We have welcomed children with all sorts of personalities, needs and ways of seeing the world, and we have never expected them to respond the same way.

A celebration worth having makes room for the child singing at full volume and the child who needs a quieter corner away from the noise.

A birthday that feels like them

The best children's parties are the ones where the birthday child feels understood. Where friends laugh together. Where nobody has to become someone else to fit in. Where a parent can look around the room and think, yes, this is what I hoped it would feel like (we've even had a few mums cry - tears of joy at how amazing it all is).

The airbrush tattoo lasts a few days. The thing that stays is harder to see and worth a great deal more: an afternoon spent being taken exactly as they are. Even the child who started the day by the door.
